It takes time to become graded as a Para Equestrian, so plan ahead and find our what is involved now. You need to submit your application a minimum of six weeks in advance of the evaluation dates (see below) you would like to attend. All applications need to be supported by a doctor or consultant, who should be able to provide a formal diagnosis.
National classification Process
The Application form (available here) will be reviewed and if you have an eligible medical diagnosis, you will be invited to attend an Athlete Evaluation (physical assessment) at one of the National Classification Hubs. There only are a limited number of appointments at each Hub.
More information
The classification system is designed to enable disabled riders and drivers to compete on equal terms against each other in para dressage and para driving. Athletes are classified according to their disability across a range of grades, which determine the complexity of the movements that they need to perform in competition.
National classification administration
British Equestrian is responsible for managing National Classification on behalf of British Dressage, Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and British Carriage Driving, allowing athletes to participate in para equestrian competitions within their chosen discipline.
